Here are landscaping tips you should follow during fall.
Autumn is just about here, and that means there will be big changes in the weather. Temperatures will drop significantly, and we’ll be watching leaves and rain fall throughout the season. You’ll need to adjust your landscaping procedures once fall arrives because you’ll want your yard to be ready for winter shortly afterwards. Here are landscaping tips you should follow during fall.
Keep Your Lawn Clean
One of the most common parts of autumn is watching leaves fall from your trees. These leaves, along with some sticks and branches, are bound to pile up on your lawn throughout the season. This debris can suffocate your lawn, depriving it of much-needed sunlight. That’s why you’ll need to make sure you keep this debris away. It’s pivotal for keeping your grass alive.
Stay on Top of Lawn Mowing
Just like in summer, lawn mowing continues to be an important landscaping task during fall. Generally speaking, it’s good to keep your lawn at around three inches in length, and it shouldn’t ever be shorter than 2.5 inches. As we get closer to the winter season, you’ll want to lower your lawn mower blades a little bit. A slightly shorter cut is preferred for your lawn during the colder winter months.
Give Your Lawn Fertilizer
Your lawn will have a much easier time lasting through the winter if it’s thick and robust. As seasonal rain starts, it’s good to take a winterizing fertilizer and apply it to your lawn. Make sure that the fertilizer you’re using has equal levels of phosphorus, potassium, and nitrogen. A 16-16-16 grass feed is what we would advise you to use.
Plant your Bulbs
While we are approaching the fall season, this is actually a good time to plant any spring-blooming bulbs you have, such as daffodils and tulips. Plant them into loose and healthy soil, and do so when the weather is at a consistently cool temperature, but before freezing temperatures begin. You’ll want to imagine what surrounding shrubs and plants will look like when they have full foliage, and plan ahead so that your flowers will be visible once spring arrives.
