Benefits Of Mulching

Mulch Benefits

Here are some reasons to add mulch to your landscape.

Spring is here, which means that it’s the perfect time to start thinking about refreshing the mulch in your landscape beds. We recommend that mulch be replaced or top coated annually at a minimum for a variety of reasons. There are a number of material options that provide added color and texture to your homes appearance such as natural shredded hardwood, dyed shredded hardwood, pine straw, natural cedar, and pine bark nuggets. No matter which organic mulch option you choose, you will experience the following benefits:

Moisture Retention and Insulation

In the heat of the Summer and the bitter cold of Winter, mulch will make a huge difference in maintaining adequate moisture content in your landscape’s soil. In harsh weather conditions, proper mulching can make all the difference in whether or not your plant material survives. This is particularly true with plants installed in the Fall that have not had time to establish a healthy root system before the ground freezes. Organic mulches break down over time and improve the quality of the soil as well.

Weed Barrier

The number one reason for installing mulch in your flowers beds is for weed suppression. When applied at the correct depth of 2-3 inches, mulch will prevent weed seeds from receiving the sunlight they need to grow and it will keep them from reaching the surface of the flower bed.

Curb Appeal

There’s nothing like a fresh coat of mulch to freshen up your home’s appearance. You will be protecting your landscape investment with all of the physical benefits that mulch provides with the added bonus of a polished, clean look.
